My dog started having grand mal seizures at a year old. The vet put her on phenobarbital and not only was this drug expensive and a struggle to give her, but he told me it would shorted her lifespan by years because it was such a harsh drug. She also continued to have seizures while on it and when it was recommended to increase the dose, I weaned her off that poison and introduced full spectrum CBD oil.
